Why choose FETC?
Foundation for Emotional Therapeutic Counselling
What We Offer
We offer an experiential, person-centred, and integrated approach to talking therapy. Using various tools we are able to help a person to recognise, acknowledge and deal with repressed or supressed emotional blocks, and to help clients to understand and connect with their Inner Child. We believe that the mind, body and spirit are of equal importance and that our emotional wellbeing is the key to a contented, fulfilling life.
Our Counsellors have been trained by experienced practising Emotional Therapeutic Counsellors.
Our level 3, level 4 and Supervisors course are approved by the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society (NCPS).
Extract from the NCPS External Examiner’s Report, May 2024:
“From the evidence of the External Examiner/Verifier’s
visit to AETC, the quality of teaching and the students’ engagement with the teaching and learning process is outstanding. From the samples of assessed work seen for the examination and verification process, the reflective and learning requirements have been closely adhered to. The work indicates the importance of both theory and practise – where theory underpins practice and practice reinforces theory. This is clearly evidenced in the samples of assessed work seen by the External Examiner/Verifier.”

The Concept of ETC
The concept of Emotional Therapy was devised over 20 years ago by Therapist Alice Crichton and Psychologist Sheila Ward who, as a result of her training and client work, felt there was a more effective approach to those experiencing emotional difficulty. A retired Chief Superintendent with the Police, Sheila was concerned about the way in which people were treated after experiencing traumatic situations and felt there must be a better way to treat them. Realising that many difficulties people experienced centred around feelings rather than the manifestation of conscious/unconscious activities, she worked on developing an approach that moved away from the source of difficulties as centred in the mind; and treating them from the point of view of having an emotional base. Incorporating aspects of the work of Therapists such as Carl Jung, Carl Rogers, Gerard Egan, Bugenthal and more recently, John Bradshaw and Penny Parks; the Founders developed an integrative counselling modality which became established as the Foundation for Emotional Therapeutic Counselling which is a registered charity and membership association. The training is provided by Academy of Emotional Therapeutic Counselling which is a registered UK learning provider.

I previously worked in IT and ran two successful companies which I sold in order to move into therapies full-time. I have been involved with various physical therapies since 1991 and I currently teach a wide range of these including acupuncture and medical massage; as well as a number of aesthetic techniques. My passion has always been the psyche and so I trained in various psychotherapy methods before completing the Foundation in Emotional Therapeutic Counselling course.
How We Can Help You
All of our Therapists have a passion for people; they are committed to helping you by supporting you through your emotional turmoil. You will be offered a safe place to talk in absolute confidence, and you will be listened to. Not just listened to, but you will be heard and your feelings validated. Emotional Therapy is centred on the feelings and the original hurt, and we do this by using some unique techniques to help you to find the words to be able to talk about painful events that have happened to you in your life. We will help you to realise the patterns of behaviour that you have developed as part of your survival, from your personal life experiences.
If you have been feeling persistently unhappy, depressed, anxious, unable to cope with a long term situation, or struggling in a relationship, or relating to others, there is no time like the present. We understand that it is a brave decision for you to take that first step by getting in touch, but we are here to support you through your journey of self discovery and your personal recovery to live a fulfilling life.
Our Therapeutic Counsellors are trained to the highest standards and subscribe to the Code of Conduct and Ethics of the National Counselling and Psychotherapy Society which requires commitment to ongoing training and supervision.
Check the Counsellor holds accredited training, is a member of an accredited organisation, keeps up to date with regular continuing professional development, has regular supervision and holds current malpractice insurance. Most importantly, you need to feel comfortable with your Counsellor, since the Counsellor/client relationship is vital to successful therapy.
Everyone is different and the number of sessions varies considerably. You should know after two or three sessions if this type of counselling is the one for you.
All practising members of the Foundation follow the process of Emotional Therapeutic Counselling and will have undergone comprehensive training. In addition, many members have trained in other counselling methods and holistic therapies and may bring these skills to enhance our integrative approach.
Whilst ours is a talking therapy, we also use various tools to help a person recognise, acknowledge and deal with repressed or supressed emotional blocks. We believe that the mind, body and spirit are of equal importance, and that our emotional wellbeing is the key to a contented, fulfilling life.
This can vary, so its always best to get in touch to ask any questions that you may have. Many of our Counsellors offer an initial consultation free of charge, as this offers the client the opportunity to ask questions and to see if they feel comfortable with the Counsellor.
